The Basic version carries the MS matrix, two balanced inserts, parallel compression and stereo width control, but leaves out the harmonic generators, so it adds no character of its own to the signal.

Your outboard works in MS without extra boxes

The compressor and equaliser already in your rack are stereo devices. The VSM-2 Basic changes that with one switch: an insert in MS mode routes M to channel A and S to channel B of the connected unit, so you can set time constants for kick and vocal separately from guitars and ambience. The level of the S signal is compensated internally, which means you do not have to correct the compressor threshold by hand. Both inserts have a hardwire bypass, so an A/B against the unprocessed signal takes a second.

Parallel compression and stereo width under control

Insert 1 has a dry/wet control that blends a heavily compressed copy back into the original signal. Instead of choosing between dynamics and density, you set the ratio between them. Insert 2 in MS mode engages the stereo width control, while in LR mode the same knob acts as a stereo balance. The scale zooms around the centre, so finding the balance point is a single move. AFL solo of M and S shows exactly what your processing is doing to the centre and the sides of the mix.

KEY FEATURES

MS encoding and decoding across the whole signal path

Two balanced XLR inserts switchable to LR, MS or Off

Parallel compression on Insert 1 with dry/wet control

Stereo width control with a zoom around the centre

Stereo balance on the same knob in LR mode

AFL solo of M and S taken after the output section

Automatic level compensation for the S signal

Input level trim ahead of all following stages

Fast input and output metering with clip LEDs

Global System hardwire bypass for the entire unit

No harmonic generators: the path stays neutral

Full recall thanks to stepped pots and switches

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Design: fully analogue, 2U chassis

All inputs and outputs electronically balanced and fully floating

Dynamic range: 128 dB

Frequency response: 10 Hz to 70 kHz (±1 dB)

Maximum output level: +30 dBu

THD at +28 dBu: below 0.003%

Signal to noise ratio at +6 dBu: 104 dB (20 Hz-20 kHz, unweighted, RMS)

Noise: -98 dBu (20 Hz-22 kHz, unweighted, RMS) at 0 dB unity gain

Minimum output load: 600 Ohm

Linear power supply with toroidal transformer

Power consumption: max 30 W

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0769/9854/1644/files/VERTIGOSOUNDVSM-2MixSatelliteBasicVersion1.jpg?v=1786977902
